![]() ![]() June 20, 2010 Pastor's PerspectiveLast weekend I referred to St. John Vianney as the patron of parish priests. As you well know, we face a very significant shortage of priests. We need to pray for many young men to open their hearts to His call and all of us to nurture that call. Perhaps we could regularly turn to this prayer as one step in that direction:Loving Father,
You sent your Son Jesus into the world. He is the Word made flesh, the Priest of the new and eternal covenant, and the Master who washed his followers’ feet. In your Providence you have given your Church the order of priests, coworkers of the bishops, as minister of the Word and Sacrament, stewards of the mysteries of your Son’s death and resurrection. Pour out on them the full measure of your Spirit’s gifts that they may preach the Gospel boldly, that they may shepherd your church faithfully, that the image of Christ, Our High Priest, may be magnified in them. Raise up many men to answer your call to the priesthood. Make them examples of discipleship by strengthening them in prayer, fidelity, and service, apostolic simplicity and obedience. Sanctify your priests as a sign of Christ, head and Shepherd of the Church, and make us all grateful for the gift of priesthood. We ask this through the same Christ, our Lord. Amen Peace, Fr. Chuck
