Pastor's Perspective It’s impossible to miss the joy and hope
of the disciples in those early days after Easter. They were
bursting with Good News that had to be shared.
Cardinal Hume of London speaks of this Easter hope:
The
great gift of Easter is hope – Christian hope which makes us have that
confidence in God, in his ultimate triumph, and in his goodness and
love, which nothing can shake, Christ shared our experience; he
suffered as we suffer; he died as we shall die, and for forty days in
the desert he underwent the struggle between good and evil. But
now it’s all different, and whatever the future holds in store,
Christian hope gives us inward peace and inward joy. That’s what
matters.
The overwhelming Joy of Easter is captured in a 19th century prayer by George Herbert:
Come, my Way, my Truth, my Life: Such a Way, as gives us breath: Such a Truth, as ends all strife: Such a Life, as killeth death.
Come, my Light, my Feast my Strength: Such a Light, as shows a feast: Such a Feast, as mends in length: Such a Strength, as makes his guest.
Come, my Joy, my Love, my Heart: Such a Joy, as none can move: Such a Love, as none can part: Such a Heart, as joys in love.
May the joy and hope of Easter be ours in these fifty days of celebration and always.
Easter Peace, Fr. Chuck
