Thanksgiving ~ Looking Ahead
Our Planning Group ~ The Webster Penfield Catholic Connection (WPCC)
includes Holy Spirit, Holy Trinity, St. Paul’s and St.
Rita. While more than 50% of the churches in our diocese are now
in a cluster, with a Priest and Pastoral Administrator serving several
churches, we are in one of the less than 50% “stand alone”
parishes.
One of our goals is to create an awareness of church elsewhere in the
diocese and the world. You will recall that we took one such step
two summers back when all four parishes cancelled our last Mass on
Sunday and celebrated one grand liturgy for all four parishes at the
Webster Schroeder Football Stadium.
We are still committed to this goal and our Planning Group has decided
that this year we will hold one common Thanksgiving Day Mass and it
will be celebrated on the Wednesday Evening the Vigil of Thanksgiving
here at St. Rita at 7:00pm. There will be no Mass here on
Thanksgiving Day itself.
As we indicated in our Planning document, “such
an event should in some way take the place of a scheduled liturgical
celebration in the local parishes so that our people can experience
both the enriching aspects and the loss that go with having to
celebrate liturgy at a different time, in a different place, with
different people, and Sacramental Leadership. The celebration
should serve as both a reminder of what our sisters and brothers
elsewhere are experiencing in terms of changing long-established
patterns of worship; and also it should serve to celebrate the unity
and marvelous gifts that our four parish communities offer to each
other.”
Please be sure to include this Great Liturgy in your Thanksgiving Plans and put in on your calendar.
Peace,
Fr. Chuck
