Pastor's Perspective
Deacon Hoan Dinh has completed his studies at the American College at
Louvain in Belgium and has now returned home. Together with
Deacon Jeffrey Tunnicliff, he will be ordained to the priesthood by
Bishop Clark at 10:30am Saturday, June 30 in Sacred Heart Cathedral
(296 Flower City Park). You are all invited to come to the
ordination of our new parish priest. It is a wonderful
celebration. If you have never witnessed an ordination or not yet
seen our new renovated cathedral, I encourage you to come.
In this day and age it is a special privilege for our parish to receive
a newly ordained priest who will serve his three years Priest
Internship here at St. Rita.
Next weekend, one week before his priesthood ordination, Deacon Hoan
will assist as Deacon at all our Masses. It’s a great
opportunity for him to meet all of us. I know that you will
extend a warm welcome and promise of prayers for his ministry among
us. After his ordination, Hoan’s official assignment here
will begin on the weekend of July 28-29.
As a parish and as a local church we need to storm the heavens and
offer encouragement to our young people to consider God’s
call. The following piece from the Pastoral Letter of the Irish
Bishops says it well:
Vocation Reflection
“What can I do?”
Trust that one man, one woman can do for God what otherwise would not be done.
Trust that some people will hear the gospel of Jesus.
That some who are in need will find the touch of human love. That
others will find a listening ear or a voice in their poverty, only
because you have chosen to give God a central place in your life.
It is not just your work, your choice, your decision. You choose
because you are chosen, you choose because in the heart of your desire
to love, you have found the heart of God searching for you.
May the Holy Spirit strengthen our families and call from among us
priests, sisters, deacons and lay ministers. May the Risen Christ
help us to know His will and live it joyfully.
Peace,
Fr. Chuck
