Pastor's Perspective
Lent is a call not only to personal renewal but also to service to
God’s people in need. In light of this, it is a good time
to share an update regarding our sister parish in New Orleans –
St. Clement of Rome – and the continuing crisis that weighs down
so many folks in that region of our land.
We are happy to announce that their pastor Msgr. Ralph Carroll, Deacon
Frank Minor and his wife Dottie (you’ll remember they visited
here last year) and Deanne Raymond, their parish council chair, will be
coming here to visit the four parishes of our Webster Penfield Catholic
Connection (Holy Trinity, Holy Spirit, St. Paul and St. Rita).
They will be speaking at some of the Masses in each of our
parishes. We will also hold a small reception in each parish
after the Saturday evening Mass to give you a chance to speak with them
personally. There will also be a basket in each church for
free-will offerings you might wish to share for their on-going needs
(Lenten Almsgiving?!)
Our own parish will share our Fiesta tithe this year with St. Clement
of Rome and the people of New Orleans. This visit is scheduled
for Saturday and Sunday April 21-22.
Their main purpose in coming is to express their gratitude for all the
support WPCC has shown them and to remind us of the enormous challenge
that still faces that whole city.
We will be sending two adult groups to work on rebuilding homes.
One group will go in May and one in the Fall. If you are
interested in learning more about this opportunity, please contact
Larry Winter at 872-2711 or e-mail:
john_l_winter06@yahoo.com. We are also working on the possibility
of a small group of High School juniors and seniors to go down and work
with high school students from St. Clement.
This whole project has been a great ministry for our WPCC Cluster and a real sign of the commitment to the wider church.
Happy Lent,
Fr. Chuck
