St. Clement of Rome to Benefit from Fiesta

The 52nd annual St. Rita Fiesta is just weeks away and it promises to be an event not to be missed. This year we are happy to announce that St Clement of Rome, our sister parish near New Orleans, will be the sole recipient of our Fiesta-related tithe.

The Fiesta, scheduled for Friday June 2nd and Saturday June 3rd, features a range of activities and games for children and adults, and a variety of tantalizing food. There is also the plant sale, the book sale, the bake sale, and the auction. Those golfers who just missed 'that putt' last year can take another shot at being the Last Golfer Standing©.

Don't forget the new $10,000 raffle. Only 5,000 tickets will be sold. All parish families should have received a mailing with entry forms. Need more? Call the Parish Office.

Country Comes to the Fiesta - Friday night is sure to be a favorite for fans of country music. Webster Thomas graduate Ciara Lynn will be performing an acoustic set with her guitar player at 6 p.m. You can get more info on her at www.ciaralynn.com.

The hot sounds of today's country music continue when Nashville recording artist Sean Patrick McGraw takes the stage at 7 p.m. McGraw's latest album, Songs for Saturday Night , has won widespread acclaim from the country music establishment. The Country Music News said "McGraw's third album is a winner." For more information please visit www.seanpatrickmcgraw.com. Get a seat early by coming for the 5 p.m. fish fry.

Sound of Tromping Feet - Saturday, the popular Webster Marching Band, and the Bishop Kearney Alumni Band - along with floats and antique cars - kicks off the activities with a parade starting a 2 p.m. The Reptile Guy, clowns and magicians are on hand Saturday afternoon. The Dinner Dogs (www.dinnerdogs.com) provide "hot tunes for cool kids" during Saturday afternoon's festivities.

The night may cool off, but the music continues to be hot with Atlas performing Saturday at 6:30 p.m. Atlas is a nine-member soul/r&b/funk band based in Rochester. Together for 25 years, Atlas is the #1 Party Band in New York State having performed at corporate parties, weddings, festivals, and night clubs (www.atlasband.com).

Mobility Scooter Leads the Auction - A generous individual has donated a 2005 Pride Legend three-wheel mobility scooter. The champagne-colored unit is less than a year old. It includes a deluxe foldable leather adjustable seat with headrest, solid non-puncture tires, head and taillights, front and rear baskets, cup and cane holders, and heavy-duty protective cover. Not your speed? Delta Sonic has donated services, as has an orthodontist. Don't forget to bid on a pew for Christmas Eve (2006) and Easter Sunday Mass (2007).

This year's auction will feature an auctioneer and will be held both nights. You can help by donating new items with a minimum value of $50. To donate call Gary and Virginia Nicastro at 872-5564 or Carol Montante 217-8629.

Games, Games and More Games - If you're not into music, there's plenty of game booths to keep you and yours interested. Here's the list: The Duck Pond, Candy Wheel,  Bank Shot, Live Fish Pond, Lazy Peg, Dart Game, Bowling, Twin Hoops, Teddy Bear, Toss, Color Block Toss, Animal Fair, Golf, Plush Toy Wheel, Plinko, Dunk Tank, Jungle Island, Pedestal Joust, Fire Truck Pumper Slide, and the Tiger Bounce.

Plant Sale Puts Down Roots We are preparing for the Fiesta Plant sale.  When you are digging and dividing your plants and shrubs for the Fiesta Plant sale please mark their names and flower colors with each pot.  Last year's success was built on our customers being able to find the plant they wanted and knowing the flower color.  We are willing to divide and dig your donated plants. We are looking for different varieties of Hostas, flowering shrubs and perennials, and any other plant you would like to donate. We are still in need of containers. Please call Carol Van Atta, 671-7832, to schedule a dig time. Or for more information, call Joyce Hollander, 671-3281.  Volunteers are needed to set up and work the booth.

Got Books? Donate Them Once again, it's time to clean out your bookshelves. Let's make this another big success by donating your used books, CD's and videos. We have great selection and bargains; so don't forget to pick up your summer reading at a fraction of the price of new material! A collection box is in the narthex. For pick-up, call 671-2722.

Sponsorships and volunteering is good for the soul The Fiesta always needs sponsors and volunteers. To volunteer, call Tom Cali, 671-0428 or Ed Ritzel, 787-1937. Setting Up/Tearing Down - A little manual labor is good for you. Volunteers are needed for setting up and tearing down the Fiesta. Call Tony Mendicino, 216-9648. For sponsorship information, contact Gary and Virginia Nicastro, 872-5564.
