FIESTA NEWS

Now that the summer has ended and everyone has returned to their old routines, we wanted to update everyone on the Fiesta. The 2002 Fiesta was a huge success. Our number one goal was to provide an entertaining event for all ages of our parish and we are proud to say, "Mission accomplished"! The number of positive comments that we received about the event was overwhelming. On top of all this we managed to raise over $15,000 for the parish.

St. Rita's has a longstanding tradition of tithing 10% of our Fiesta profits to an organization or ministry. This year we were pleased to share our financial success with the St. Joseph's Neighborhood Center and to our Twinning Parish in Tanzania, Africa.

For this we have quite a few people to thank:

  • Fr. Chuck and the Parish Council for the support, prayers, and confidence they instilled in us to chair this event.
  • The Parish Staff for the many hours of answering phone calls, stuffing envelopes, collecting money, creating bulletin announcements, and on and on. They were invaluable to us.
  • Sr. Katherine Anne and the staff of St. Rita's School for allowing us to take over their building in ways they never expected to have happen. Their patience and support were inspirational to us.
  • The Sponsors who are listed on the reverse of this letter. Their generosity made the event not only possible but also successful.
  • Ciara Lynn, Brass Taxi and The Skycoasters for providing us with two great nights of entertainment.
  • The Committee Chairpeople who spent many months in planning and preparation as well as an unbelievable number of hours during the week of the fiesta. They are the most unselfish, caring and supportive group of individuals that we have ever had the pleasure of knowing. They were directly responsible for all the success of this event and for getting 300 volunteers organized and working together to ensure a fun and safe weekend.
  • The 300 volunteers whose positive attitudes and work ethics made the Fiesta a success.

There are 3 people in particular that we would like to single out, who helped us immeasurably in running this event for the first time. They say ex-chairpeople never die they just fade away, not so at St. Rita's. Chuck Hasso, Tim Young and Ray Recchia have done their duty for this event in past years and could very easily have told us, "Good Luck, see you at church!" but that is not their way. Not only did they give us constant advice and counsel, but they also gave us their time and their hard work. In fact it may have been easier for them if they had stayed as chairmen!! That is the beauty of this parish and this event in particular, the friendships and the camaraderie you get from working with others who share your desire to do something good not just for yourself but for the parish community.

If you missed this event, do yourself a favor; mark down these dates for next year:

FRIDAY, JUNE 6TH and SATURDAY, JUNE 7TH, 2003.

Plan on bringing your family and friends and share with them our great community.

With gratitude,
Tom Cali & Dave Mauro
2002 Fiesta Chairmen
